ARCH ENEMY Guitarist Talks Upcoming Album In New Video Interview
November 30, 2010Simon "Astrocreep" Crampton of Sonic Shocks conducted an interview with guitarist Michael Amott of Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY on November 27, 2010 at the HMV Forum in London, England. You can now watch the chat in two parts below.
In a recent interview with Maximum Rock Mag, ARCH ENEMY vocalist Angela Gossow stated about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's next album, "[We will] go straight to the studio in the beginning of December and start recording the new album. . . We've got 12 songs for now but I think we're going to end up with 15 or 16 songs, I don't know… We have two months in the studio, December and January. The album has to drop in May."
Regarding the musical direction of ARCH ENEMY's new material, Gossow said, "ARCH ENEMY's trademark is extreme stuff with a lot of melody. Right now the extreme stuff is definitely over the top, so I think we will try to write 2-3 more melodic tracks; it's very extreme at the moment, a lot of blast beats, you know... I'm so excited about it, we haven't written an album since 2007, we've got a ton of riffs, there's gonna be a lot of riffs in every song I think because we've got so many and we're just really hungry for a new album."
ARCH ENEMY's "The Root Of All Evil" album featured re-recorded versions of songs from the band's first three LPs — "Black Earth" (1996),"Stigmata" (1998) and "Burning Bridges" (1999). Acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, EXODUS) mixed and mastered the CD, which was recorded at a few different locations in Sweden and produced by ARCH ENEMY with Daniel Erlandsson and Rickard Bengtsson handling the engineering. The Japanese edition of "The Root Of All Evil" featured five bonus tracks, including cover versions of "Wings Of Tomorrow" (EUROPE) and "Walk In The Shadows" (QUEENSRŸCHE).
